More Than 7,000 Nonprofits in 120 Communities Gear Up for May 6s Give Local America Largest, Single-Day Charitable Crowdfunding Event Ever

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) April 28, 2014

Twitter, Facebook and other social media along with mobile gadgets are abuzz as 7,000-plus nonprofits in local communities nationwide gear up for and get out the word about Give Local America on May 6, anticipated to be the largest, one-day, charitable, online crowdfunding event to date.

Organized by Kimbia, the leading provider of technology for increasingly popular online giving days, Give Local America celebrates the 100th anniversary of community foundations in the United States and the vital role they play in fostering local philanthropy.

The 24-hour campaign seeks to motivate everyone to donate to his or her favorite causes on May 6 as well as throughout the year. In most of the 120 participating communities, community foundations are promoting and executing the local giving days in collaboration with nonprofits actively involved in the event. Give Local America is expected to transform grassroots philanthropy in the United States by activating a record number of people, including many new donors, to support the hometown charities that make a profound difference in their communities all with just a few mouse clicks.

Give Local America additionally will introduce many nonprofits to the benefits of online donation technology, which can significantly increase fundraising and donor acquisition both perennial needs of charitable groups.

Give Local America is a major stride forward for the nonprofit sector it leverages the proven local giving day model to create a high impact, mid-year, national giving event, said George Stevens, President and CEO, Coastal Community Foundation in Charleston, South Carolina. It will remind Americans to be philanthropic at the local level throughout the year not just during the year-end, holiday season when so many people are planning to donate anyway.

Dan Gillett, CEO, Kimbia, echoed those sentiments. At a time when it is often easier to give internationally than it is to help people and causes in your own community, Give Local America will serve as a catalyst to reignite the spirit of local philanthropy here at home, said Gillett. Key to this effort are our community foundation partners who do a marvelous job of assisting donors by identifying those charities that are having the greatest impact in their local communities.

The successes of Kimbia-powered community giving days such as the 2013 North Texas Giving Day which raised $ 25.2 million in just 17 hours inspired organizers to create Give Local America. The event will also provide a much needed springtime complement to Giving Tuesday a national day of giving on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which was established in 2012 to kick off the annual holiday giving season. Local giving days also enable organizations to recruit a lot of new supporters for some giving days, new donors can represent up to 60 percent of all contributors.

Participating nonprofits range from small organizations to some of the nations best known groups, e.g., Nature Conservancy and Salvation Army. To make participation easy, every community gets a uniquely branded giving day website plus donation forms that can be embedded in under two minutes. Community foundations and nonprofits can provide the forms to their local business partners so they can fundraise, too. Theres also training on social media promotion and capacity building, along with match day toolkits and website-embeddable, real-time leader boards.

So far, participating community foundations and nonprofits have collectively amassed $ 5 million in local community matching funds to encourage more giving and amplify the impact of every dollar raised. Everyone can watch the days progress on the national and community-focused Give Local America websites, which will show all donations as they come in, and they also can track the social media chatter on Twitter and Facebook using the #GiveLocalAmerica hashtag.

Celebrities signed up to support local communities participating in Give Local America include:

????Award-winning actor Kevin Bacon, along with his nonprofit, which connects celebrities to local nonprofits to help promote their activities and missions. Bacon is lending support to Give Day Tampa Bay, offering donors an opportunity to win a personalized message from him or an extra $ 1,000 toward their cause.

????Rob Van Winkle, better known at Vanilla Ice. The rapper, actor and TV show host is advocating for the GREAT GIVE in Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

????Allen Toussaint, a two-time Grammy award winner who wrote a jingle for a television PSA promoting GiveNOLA Day, hosted by the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

Made In America Mobile Store Coming To Altoona, PA Sept. 21 & 22

Elma, NY (PRWEB) September 11, 2012

It all started in Altoona, says Made in America Store founder Mark Andol when asked how his collaboration with Altoona native Ricky Lee began. Altoona native Bill Brantner, a war hero who fought for our country in three different conflicts Vietnam, Persian Gulf and Operation Iraqi Freedom is the man responsible for bringing Ricky and me together.

Andol described Bill Brantners response to a feature story about the Made in America Store published in The Altoona Mirror in spring of 2010. The story focused on Mark Andols revolutionary idea to open a store that exclusively sells 100% American Made products down to the packaging. The first and only Made in America Store opened on April 3, 2010, in the Town of Elma near Buffalo, New York.

Brantners friend, Nashville recording artist Ricky Lee, had recently recorded a patriotic CD titled Freedom. One of the tracks, Made in America, captured the same frustration over the loss of American jobs and expressed hope for the future if Americans would buy and manufacture American products once again. Brantner knew he had to get these two patriots together.

Andol received a handwritten letter from Brantner, together with a demo CD, and was greatly moved by the veterans introduction of Andol to Ricky Lees patriotic compilation of songs. Shortly after, Andol and Ricky Lee spoke by phone and hit it off immediately. The very same day, Ricky headed to the Made in America Store, guitar in hand.

On June 23, 2010, the two met, and Ricky Lee delivered an impromptu rendition of Made in America at the Made in America Store. Customers and employees were entertained and inspired by Ricky Lees patriotic tune. This performance was captured on video by an employee with an I-Phone.

The Made in America Store has been read about, heard and seen on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, FOX & Friends, NPR, USA Today, The Saturday Evening Post, FOX Business (Lou Dobbs), Channel One Russia, The New York Post, Yomiuri Shimbun Newspaper and NHK World TV (Japan), The Wall Street Journal, KBS World TV (Korea) and Associated Press Articles published in hometown newspapers including The Altoona Mirror across the country.

Fast forward to September 2012, in just two years, the Made in America Store has expanded four times and acquired an adjacent building to be used as a World Distribution Center for American-Made Products. Mark Andol has sponsored numerous Ricky Lee concerts, primarily in Western New York. Among the most poignant performances was Rickys acoustic concert at a Homeless Shelter for Veterans in Buffalo. Veterans represent the highest percentage of the homeless population in the U.S.

Andol is now doing site visits for his second brick and mortar store. The first store in Elma remains the only general merchandise store in the country with the 100% American Made guarantee. To date, more than 125 tour buses have brought visitors to the store from as far as San Diego, California. The store regularly hosts tour buses from the Midwest, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Since Pennsylvania is such a strong tourist market for the store, including on-line sales, it makes sense to scope out a brick and mortar location for that state. Altoona is in the mix, to be sure, but other cities and communities in PA have also sought out a store.

The Made in America Mobile Store will afford the citizens of Altoona the opportunity to shop top-selling items from the New York location, which now carries 4,500 products displayed in 6,000 sq.ft. of All-American retail space. The support of local residents is a key factor in determining the location of the second and all future stores, so Sept. 21 & 22 will offer a dress rehearsal for the community to show its interest in a retail attraction that would bring many benefits to Altoona, including increased tourism.

Ricky Lee is well-known to veteran circles, having been sponsored by VFW National and having performed at the National Meeting in Indianapolis, IN. Ricky Lee has entertained veterans and troops at in venues as far as California.

Together, Mark Andol and Ricky Lee share the mission of the Made in America Store, so beautifully expressed through Ricky Lees music for country, for soldier, for American worker. Everything Ricky Lee and I do on behalf of this mission is in gratitude to God above and to the veterans who fought for our freedom. We are keenly focused on a future of peace and prosperity for our children, Andol concluded.

The Made In America Store is the only brick and mortar store that sells 100% made in the United States products from over 350 vendors. Consumers can visit or call 716-652-4872 to get more information or shop our catalog of over 3,500 items. Consumers interested in a 100% American made blanket or pillow can visit or visit the store location in Elma, New York.

Simply Home has a history of partnership, hard work and accomplishment. Starting back in 1985, Tom Lovelace opened a small gift shop called Simply Country and it was close to Interstate 77 and 81 in Wytheville, Virginia. The location itself brought a lot of travelers and tourists, thus helping Tom with customer appreciation and retail experience.

In 1987, Harold Pennington, Sr. and Haskell Mallory started Weavetec, a commission based weaving operation in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Weavetec was one of the few lasting textile companies in the United States.

Both owners lives crossed paths in 1990, when Lovelace was searching for a company that could handle a large demand in wholesale and retail for their consumers. A partnership was born and both companies expanded, creating a basis for expansion.

In 1992, both companies were doing so well that Weavetec had added two new facilities in South Carolina and in 1994 Weavetec outgrew their initial location and moved into a 45,000 square foot warehouse and distribution center.

However, in 1995, both companies began to experience a significant slowdown and in turn led Weavetec to purchase Simply Country. The new partnership allowed Weavetec to continue its work of manufacturing the USA made textile jobs while Simply Country could expand their line of products sold.

In January of 2002, Simply Country decided to change their name to Simply Home as their product line become more all-around home decorating items instead of the traditional country focused store.

The Made in America Store is located at 900 Maple Road in Elma, New York and is committed to selling 100% American manufactured products.
